July 27, 2005 - Charlotte, N.C. - Local ophthalmologist Jonathan D. Christenbury, M.D., of the Christenbury Eye Center in Charlotte, has been awarded the LADARVision® System CustomCornea® Quality of Vision award, in recognition of his commitment to improving the quality of vision for his patients.

“We are committed to incorporating new ways to optimize visual quality for our laser eye surgery patients,” explains Dr. Christenbury. “For example, we have invested in state-of-the art laser eye surgery technology the LADARVision laser eye surgery system and now also routinely apply new CustomCornea WaveFront technology to provide our patients with a truly customized LASIK procedure. This award is a great honor, and clearly demonstrates our long-standing commitment to the best quality of care for our patients.”

According to Dr. Christenbury, CustomCornea WaveFront-guided laser eye surgery, which is based on each patient’s unique visual needs, goes beyond 20/20 to help patients realize optimal visual crispness and clarity. In addition, with this new WaveFront technology, surgeons can help patients greatly reduce the likelihood of post-LASIK night vision problems that have been associated with traditional LASIK, such as glare and halos.

Dr. Christenbury is the first of only a small number of ophthalmologists around the country to receive the Quality of Vision Award, which recognizes eye surgeons who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to optimal visual quality in laser eye surgery, from Alcon, Inc., the manufacturer of the LADARVision system. The LADARVision system was recently inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame, a program established by the Space Foundation, in cooperation with NASA, to recognize innovative companies using technology originally developed for space use in commercial products.
