Catie Earl, O.D.

Dr. Earl attended Colorado State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in American Studies with an emphasis in Science. Dr. Earl then returned to her home state to attend The Ohio State College of Optometry, where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree.

During her 4th year of optometry school, Dr. Earl interned at the Hefner Veterans Affairs Hospital in Salisbury, North Carolina, where her passion for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with ocular disease began.

After graduation from optometry school, Dr. Earl decided to further her training by attending an ocular disease and low vision rehabilitation residency program at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Hospital in Missouri. This highly recognized program was the first established ocular disease residency program for optometry in the United States.

While in her residency, Dr. Earl learned the art of diagnosing and managing complex ocular disease, as well as how to use low vision concepts, techniques and devices to rehabilitate people with vision impairments. One of her most rewarding experiences was helping a veteran see the face of his wife and be able to read again; something he had not been able to do in more than five years.

Dr. Earl taught and proctored 4th year optometry students who rotated through the hospital as part of their training. She is passionate about teaching and lecturing and presented at the American Academy of Optometry meeting in 2006.

After the completion of her residency, Dr. Earl practiced in a general ophthalmology and refractive surgery practice in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she learned the valuable skills of managing pre and post-operative refractive surgery patients.

Dr. Earl is now living in North Carolina and practicing at Christenbury Eye Center in Charlotte. Here, Dr. Earl is able to continue her goal of practicing in a full scope optometric setting where she can continue to care for a diverse patient base.

In her spare time, Dr. Earl enjoys boating and relaxing on the water with family members. Her favorite activity since childhood is snow skiing and one of her favorite pals is her Labrador Retriever, Murphy.
