Alcon LADARVision® 4000

There are many different laser systems on the market today, each with a specific level of capability and expertise. At Christenbury Eye Center, we offer several state-of-the-art systems.

The LADARVision 4000 excimer laser system has two important advantages: the size of the laser beam and a patented eye tracking device.

The finer the laser beam, the more precise and accurate the corneal reshaping. LADARVision 4000 offers a fine laser beam smaller than the width of a human hair (about 1 mm in width), which allows corneal tissue to be removed in small, gradual increments for a superior, smooth reshaping.

Eye tracking is also important for accurate results. One of the challenges the surgeon faces in performing laser vision correction is eye movement. Normally, the eyes are continually moving about a hundred times a second. It is difficult, if not impossible, to keep the eyes still, even when you make a conscious attempt. Yet, it is critical that the laser beam be applied to the exact spot required so the cornea is reshaped correctly.

The LADARVision 4000’s eye tracker follows eye movements at 4,000 times per second and provides continuous feedback. The surgeon knows exactly where the cornea will be at all times - leaving no margin for error. The end result is a high degree of patient satisfaction with the outcome of the procedure.

LADAR™ 6000

The LADAR 6000 improves upon the unique technology of the LADARVision System, delivering better quality of vision with the CustomCornea procedure. Incorporating the same unique registration, or “Capture Match Treat” technology, the LADAR 6000 also offers greater automation, speed and control, improving both the doctor and patient experience.

CustomCornea® LADARVision System

CustomCornea was the first LASIK procedure FDA-approved to provide a fully customized treatment for your vision, addressing higher-order aberrations that had previously gone undetected, including those linked to glare, halos and night vision problems. This advanced treatment can provide patients with a better quality of vision than they ever had before, even with contacts or glasses. The LADARWave® wavefront device is used to create a wavefront map of each eye, capturing the unique combination of higher and lower-order aberrations present in your optical system.

The resulting Wavefront Map for each eye is then placed into the excimer laser system, and converted to a guide for the laser. The result is a Wavefront Customized iLASIK treatment. At Christenbury Eye Center, 98% of patients who undergo WaveFront Customized iLASIK achieve 20/20 vision or better!

Now, with the CustomCornea LADARVision system, laser vision correction is available for more than 90 percent of the nearsighted population. Patients with severe nearsightedness (myopia) up to -8.0 diopters can be treated, an increase from -7.0 diopters. Patients with astigmatism up to -4.0 diopters (up from -0.5) are now candidates for Wavefront Customized iLASIK as well. Off-label use allows surgeon to offer Wavefront guided treatement to patients with up to 10.63D of SE (Spherical Equivalent) refractive error. This advancement in technology is only available by Alcon and is available at Christenbury Eye Center.
