“Our patients say that the quality of vision at night is better with Custom Vision LASIK than with glasses and contacts.”

Christenbury Eye Center Offers LipiFlow® Treatment for Meibomian Gland Disease
Christenbury Eye Center announced a new in-office treatment, LipiFlow®, that offers relief to people with chronic dry eye that is diagnosed as Evaporative Dry Eye.
For Immediate Release
Christenbury Eye Center announced a new in-office treatment, LipifFow®, that offers relief to people with chronic dry eye that is diagnosed as Evaporative Dry Eye. This condition, otherwise known as Meibomian Gland Disease, is caused by blocked Meibomian oil glands, the eyelid glands that help maintain a healthy tear film that with age may become blocked. Dr. Jonathan Christenbury and the Christenbury Eye Center is the only provider of the FDA-approved LipiFlow® treatment in the Charlotte region.
This procedure is the first effective treatment for Evaporated Dry Eye. The LipiFlow treatment is short and comfortable as the eyelid glands are gently heated and massaged. The majority of patients experience an improvement of dry eye symptoms with better eye comfort and more stable vision within days or weeks.
“Evaporative Dry Eye has always been a challenge to treat,” says Dr. Christenbury. “We’re proud to be the first to bring this much-needed service to our patients.”
Prior to LipiFlow, Evaporative Dry Eye otherwise had been difficult to treat and can worsen if left untreated. Evaporative Dry Eye is a blockage of the eyelid oil gland that provides the top lipid layer of the tear film. When the lipid layer is inadequate, the tears evaporate causing fluxional vision and dry eye symptoms.
According to the LipiFlow study, within four weeks, 79% of patients reported an improvement in dry eye symptoms that continued to improve. Patients saw a decrease in the use of drops and months later, some no longer needed drops at all.
